Older Homes, Newer Neighborhoods, Same Fire Risks

Woodstock is the McHenry County seat, and its historic Square sits among streets of older homes. Many of them have original brick chimneys that have stood through generations of freeze-thaw winters. Other parts of town have newer construction with gas fireplaces, inserts, and prefabricated systems.

Each of these has its own needs. A century-old masonry chimney may have worn mortar, a cracked crown, or a flue that was never lined. A newer gas fireplace still needs its venting checked. And in every home, from a Square-area bungalow to a new subdivision, the dryer vent quietly collects lint with every load.

We look after all of it, so you can rely on one company for your chimney, your dryer vent, and your ductwork.

Dryer Vent Cleaning: The Fire Risk Most Homeowners Forget

Lint is highly flammable, and your dryer pushes a little more of it into the vent with every cycle. Left alone, it packs into bends and the exterior hood, choking airflow and trapping heat right where a fire can start.

Our dryer vent cleaning service clears the whole run from the dryer to the outside, not just the lint screen you empty yourself. When we finish, air moves freely again, so your dryer works less, dries faster, and runs cooler.

Call us if you notice:

  • Towels or jeans still damp after a full cycle
  • A dryer cabinet or laundry room that's hotter than usual
  • A scorched or musty smell while the dryer runs
  • Lint piling up behind the dryer or at the outside vent
  • An exterior flap that barely moves when the dryer is on

The payoff: a lower fire risk, shorter drying times, lower energy bills, and less strain on a machine that's expensive to replace. Our technicians hold CSIA C-DET dryer exhaust certification.

We recommend a yearly cleaning, and it pairs well with your fall chimney sweep. Ask about savings when you book services together.

Everything We Do for Woodstock Homeowners

Keeping the Fireplace Safe to Use

  • Chimney Sweeping: Clears out creosote, soot, and blockages such as nests and debris. We protect your floors with tarps and runners and contain the dirt with HEPA-filtered vacuums.
  • Safety Inspections: A thorough check of the whole system, following the CSIA's three inspection levels. Buying or selling a home, or recovering from a chimney fire or storm? A Level 2 inspection is required.
  • Video Scanning: A camera travels through the flue so we can see cracks and gaps that no one can spot from the roof or hearth.
  • Glazed Creosote Treatment: When creosote hardens into a glossy glaze, we remove it with mechanical and chemical methods.
  • Written Safety Evaluations: A documented report of what we found and what we recommend.

Keeping the Structure Sound

  • Chimney Repair: Restores damaged chimneys to safe, code-compliant condition.
  • Tuckpointing: New mortar where the old has worn away, which stops water from getting into the brick.
  • Crown Repair: A cracked top lets in rain and snow. Fixing it early avoids a far larger repair later.
  • Waterproofing: A protective barrier against moisture that extends the life of your masonry.
  • Rebuilding: Partial or full rebuilds when a chimney is too far gone for patchwork.

Liners, Caps & Appliance Venting

  • Chimney Liners: Our UL-listed stainless steel relining system can save an unlined or damaged chimney that would otherwise need a complete rebuild. Gas flue liners help keep carbon monoxide out of your living space.
  • Stainless Steel Caps: Lifetime-warranted caps block rain, snow, animals, and leaves.
  • Top-Sealing Dampers: Stop the heated or cooled air in your house from escaping up the flue.
  • Draft and Smoking Fixes: We track down why smoke spills into the room and correct it.
  • Furnace and Water Heater Venting: Proper exhaust for the other appliances in your home.

Upgrades for the Hearth

  • Gas and Wood Inserts: Sold and installed by our team, a good way to turn an inefficient open fireplace into a real heat source.
  • Gas Log Sets: A realistic fire at the flip of a switch.
  • Fireplace Accessories: Custom glass doors, carbon monoxide destectors, and more.

Cleaner Air Inside

  • Air Duct Cleaning: High-tech negative air pressure equipment pulls dust, pollen, and allergens out of your ductwork, which helps with air quality and HVAC efficiency.

How a Visit Works

Woodstock FAQs

  • My house is over 100 years old. Is the chimney still safe to use?

It depends on its condition, and the only way to know is an inspection. Older chimneys are often unlined or have worn liners and mortar. A video scan shows what's inside, and if a liner or repair is needed, there are solutions short of a full rebuild.

  • Why is my dryer taking forever to dry clothes?

A clogged vent is the most common cause. When lint blocks airflow, moist air can't escape and your dryer has to run longer. Having the full vent line cleaned usually restores normal drying times.

  • How often does a dryer vent need to be cleaned?

Every year is the recommendation. If you do a lot of laundry, have pets, or your vent run is long with several bends, lint may build up faster.

  • Does a dryer vent cleaning cover more than the lint trap?

Yes. The screen only catches part of what your dryer sheds. Our service clears the whole vent line to the outside, where most dangerous buildup hides.

  • Can you sweep my chimney and clean my dryer vent in the same visit?

Absolutely. Many Woodstock customers bundle them, and we often have specials when you do. Mention it when you book.

  • When is the best time to book a chimney sweep?

Before you start using your fireplace for the season. Spring and summer are less busy, and we sometimes offer off-season discounts.

  • What happens during a chimney cleaning?

We lay down tarps and runners, set up our HEPA vacuums, sweep the flue, inspect the system, and show you any problems with photos. It typically takes 45 minutes to an hour.

  • Do I need to clean out the fireplace before you come?

Leave the ashes. We bring vacuums designed to remove them without spreading dust through the house.

  • Should I stay home during the appointment?

We encourage it, since you'll want to hear our findings firsthand. Please keep pets secured, because even a calm animal can get nervous around strangers and track soot off the runners.

  • Why can't I watch from the roof?

Insurance and safety rules keep customers off our ladders and staging. We bring the roof to you instead, with digital photos you can view on the spot.

  • What does a Level 2 inspection involve, and when do I need it?

It includes everything in a basic Level 1 inspection plus a video scan of the flue. You need one when a home is bought or sold, when you change fuels or appliances, or after a fire or storm. See the three levels explained.

  • How can I tell if my chimney is leaking?

Look for water stains on the ceiling or walls near the fireplace, rust inside the firebox, a musty smell, or white staining on the brick. These often point to a damaged crown, failing mortar, or a missing cap.

  • Do you service gas fireplaces and inserts?

Yes. We service, repair, and install gas and wood-burning units, including inserts and gas log sets.

  • What does a chimney liner do?

It shields the masonry from heat and corrosive byproducts and keeps combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, inside the flue. Cracked or missing liners are a serious safety issue.

  • Why would I need air duct cleaning?

Over time ducts collect dust, pollen, and debris that get blown around your home. Cleaning them can improve air quality and help your system run more efficiently.

  • Which areas around Woodstock do you cover?

Woodstock, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Lakewood, Marengo, Harvard, and nearby McHenry County communities.

  • How can I pay?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, and cash.
